A couple weeks ago, we spent a few days at Pilanesberg National Park, a game reserve about an hour and a half away from where we live.  We stayed at a hotel right outside the park and it was a great way to do New Years in South Africa with the boys. Compared to Masai Mara or Kruger, Pilanesberg is relatively small but it was a perfect size safari to do with two young kids (if there is such a thing).  We drove ourselves around the park and, even though we were limited on time due to toddler attention spans and baby needs, we saw lions, giraffes, zebra, kudus, wildebeest, rhinos, and elephants.  On a side note, when I began motherhood, I don't think I ever anticipated nursing a baby while lions hunted outside my door. But, yeah, that happened.

On the lookout for tigers. Known to everyone else as lions.

As Nate says, "Em-umphs".

"A gi-asssh!"

Taking in the view one more time before falling asleep in the car.

The hotel where we stayed.  Hard to believe there is legit safari only a few minutes away.
